Canyon Springs High School choir and band students invited to nation’s capital
Moreno Valley, Calif. - Canyon Springs High School students from choir and band have been invited to represent the state of California and the City of Moreno Valley at the Memorial Day Parade and Choral Festival in Washington, D.C.
The choir will be singing for the televised opening of the parade while the band marches through the heart of Washington, D.C.
“We aim to show the nation the immense talent and dedication of our students, while paying tribute to our brave service members who have made the ultimate sacrifice,” said Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator Renee Rojanaroj.
The band students provided a sneak peak to the audience at the district’s annual State of the District on Thursday, January 18.
“We are very proud that our students were selected to perform at this event,” said School Board President Brandy Clark. “It is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that they will never forget.”
Many community members, officials and groups have been working together to raise funds to help cover the cost of the trip.
“The students are representing our school, our district, our community and our state,” said Interim Superintendent Dr. Robert Verdi. “It’s wonderful to see everyone working together to make this possible for our students.”
There will be an event on February 29 at 6:30 PM at the March Air Field Museum called "Symphony by Candlelight: A Prelude to D.C" in which students will be showcasing their talents to their community while raising funds for the trip.
